Ling Ling Bird CHRISTMAS ACTIVITY BOOK

by Tanya Saunders

Busy festive fun with the lovable Ling Ling Bird!

This travel-sized Christmas Activity Book (perfect as a stocking filler too!) is bursting with over 60 festive puzzles, word games and creative challenges to keep children entertained while they learn and practice Christmas vocabulary and hone their speech and language skills.

While it's not necessary to have previously read its sister title, "Ling Ling Bird Loves Christmas", the activities in this book are designed to build upon the same learning goals (particularly festive vocabulary acquisition) and expand upon the same core theme (exploring the five senses through the sights, sounds, smells, tastes and textures of Christmas).

The book is structured so that its activities become progressively more challenging, starting with simple games and puzzles (with hints and tips provided to guide children new to these activities), then progressing to more complex challenges, allowing children to use and practice the skills learned earlier on in the book.

Many of the activities are based on speech and language development games (great for practicing Christmas vocabulary), with festive word puzzles and rhymes, "What's that sound?" challenges and even some fun Christmas Ling Sound colouring activities too. A range of challenges encourage children to think about how they experience Christmas through each of the five senses, such as sorting food into sweet or savoury, and deciding whether different things are hot or cold. Other activities support the development of cognitive and early maths skills (such as repeating patterns, counting and sorting). Still more activities support the development of early emotional intelligence; for example, two challenges include (1) the child thinking about and drawing what they would like to find in their own Christmas stocking and (2) what other people who are special to them might like to receive as a Christmas gift. This encourages children to consider how different people like and value different things.

With over 60 Christmas challenges packed into this 96-page book, you'll find a selection of these activities (building in complexity from beginning to end):

  • Word searches

  • Mazes

  • Matching pairs

  • What's that sound?

  • How does it taste?

  • How does it feel?

  • Spot the differences

  • Christmas Ling-Madell-Hewitt (LMH) sounds

  • Festive rhyme time

  • Design, draw & colour

  • Word puzzles

  • Counting & sorting

  • Repeating patterns

  • Join the dots

  • Christmas crosswords

  • & More!

About Ling Ling Bird:
Ling Ling Bird is a larger-than-life, rainbow-coloured cockatoo who is deaf and wears cochlear implants. He calls these devices his "magic ears" because they help him to hear. Ling Ling Bird is on a mission to encourage children with (and without) hearing loss to follow their dreams!
Ling Ling Bird stars in several children's storybooks including "Ling Ling Bird Hears with his Magic Ears", “Ling Ling Bird: Who Am I?”, "Ling Ling Bird Seen and Heard" and "Ling Ling Bird Loves Christmas", all written by Tanya Saunders (mother to twin girls, one of whom is profoundly deaf) and published by AVID Language.
